About This Site:

This site is written in PHP using the Symfony MVC framework. It also uses a fair sprinkling of jQuery, CSS3 and some HTML5 so your mileage may vary depending on your browser.

Why?

Well.. PHP (Originally standing for Personal Home Page) were originally a set of PERL scripts, later rewritten in C and has rather quickly become a favorite web scripting language, especially among developers. We love the language because it's, open source, powerfule, evolving, open source, well documented, open source, has unlimited potential, open source, flexible, open source, and before I forget, open source. Yes, I'm making a point of it being open source, but not out of any sense of stinginess, just out of the personally held opinion that Open Source breeds development which breeds better open source code. From a developer's point of view, there is very little that can't be done on PHP, and in those cases where those things were not done natively, as was originally the case with GD (Dynamic image creation in PHP) they will become part of the core once the need to do so becomes apparent by the real-world usage of the users as opposed to a focus panel at a mega-corp which has decided to add the feaure as a selling point of a new and radically different release. This site is using te Symfony MVC framework, not out of any particularly strong love for it, I think there still is some maturing to be seen in the Symfony core, some of which appears to be shaping upin the forthcoming Symfony 2.0 release later this year, but out of the potential that exists therein. Symfony brings to PHP the strict standards, and uniflrm modeling that has to this point made .NET a better fit for larger corporations, who require full standardization in their code.
